Today I’m talking sausage! I haven’t bought sausage from Costco for a long time so when I was recently craving some pierogies with sausage I decided to pick a pack up at Costco. Today I’m reviewing the Olympic Craft Meats Garlic Sausage from Costco. I tried to find a sausage that had natural ingredients and didn’t include any gluten.

Cost

You get two HUGE sausages for $13.99 Canadian. Half of one sausage is more than enough for the two of us to have with pierogis and have leftovers.

Convenience

You can grill this, steam it in the microwave, pan fry it or just eat it straight from the fridge. I actually used this with pierogies and to make jambalaya and everyone in my family really enjoyed it. This is a super versatile sausage and the best before date is about three months from the date we purchased this. I froze half the sausage and it froze well. The package recommends you use this within seven days of opening.

Nutrition

100 grams of garlic sausage is 270 calories, 22 grams of fat, four grams of carbohydrates (which is low), zero grams of fibre, one gram of sugar and 14 grams of protein. The sodium is high! I was really surprised to find that 100 grams has 1080 mg of sodium! That’s a lot especially if you’re watching your sodium intake. The ingredients list is very short and straight forward and doesn’t contain any gluten.

Taste

As I said, this sausage is really versatile. It’s salty, flavorful and seasoned well.  You can definitely taste the garlic but it’s not completely overpowering.  The casing is a bit tough and chewy but it can be taken off really easily (the casing actually kind of rolled off as I was cutting it). This went well with pierogies and I appreciated that it had natural ingredients listed. I used this in jambalaya but you could also use this to make quick garlic sausage and roasted vegetables in the oven, a garlic sausage pasta or garlic sausage rice casserole. The only thing I’d prefer is if the casing was slightly less thick and not as chewy.

I’ve been buying more turkey sausage lately and would love if Costco has a turkey garlic sausage to buy but it was nice to try this Olympic Craft Meats Garlic Sausage from Costco, I’m curious what other sausages people like from Costco so please do share!

  1. You cannot beat this deal when this sausage goes on sale! Unless sausage is made by your local butcher, it is going to be salty, salt is a preservative, it extends the shelf life of the sausage. If you ever cook it up and want to remove the salty taste, recommend boiling it first. A great BBQ recipe is cut it up into quarters or chunks, cook it on the BBQ, and brush on your favourite BBQ sauce…really delicious, almost like popcorn, cannot eat enough of it!!

  2. We love harvest meats. They’re packaged out of Yorkton Saskatchewan. (I was born and raised in sask). I like the garlic sausage with perogies. But we LOVE the farmer sausage in a skillet (eggs, veggies, cheese on a bed of hash browns (also from Costco)).

  3. Anything with smoke flavour is a proven carcinogen, sorry this is not healthy and I would never eat it or anything with nitrates. Far too much salt and fat content.

  4. Hi Natalie: I have read your sausage review, this product used to be a really good product. But somehow the manufacture, of the product wasn’t satisfied with that or their well-known name brand. As a result, started changing the taste put more fat into the product, and when cooking it didn’t smell nice or taste the same at all. Then they increased the price of it and after that, they have now made the rings smaller as it is now 2 x 800 Grams it was 2 x 1000 Gram previously. Sorry, but this product is now garbage food.

  5. It’s a great change once in awhile. We slice it thin and fry till almost crispy. Great with eggs! Us garlic snappers love to just break off a chunk and go at it…lol. It’s one of the best garlic sausages out there for the money. Is a makes a good versatile snack anytime of the day.

  6. I really enjoy the Harvest Double Smoked Farmers Sausage. No MSG and Gluten Free. 780 mg sodium for 100 grams, Still high but only eat on occasion. Great right out of package, on bbq or with perogies or in pasta dishes. I think there are 10 per package.

  7. I donot like it the other Olympic one was way better flavor. I think it taste like cheap meat . Will not buy any more. I bought it for snacks at Christmas and my family and friends asked me where I got and they were surprised it was from cost and did not eat because of the taste
